AMMAN — Digital transformation is a major driver of economic and social development, and accelerating the digitisation of more government services, said Haitham Rawajbeh, representative of the communications and information technology sector in the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), on Monday.
In a statement on Monday, Rawajbeh said that Jordan is considered one of the region's preeminent countries in the digital transformation process in several economic sectors, such as the financial, agricultural, industrial and health services fields, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Digital transformation reduces operational costs, contributes to simplifying and accelerating procedures for services provided to citizens, provides high-quality services with transparency, monitors performance and links public and private institutions to ensure data security, the JCC member said.
He pointed out that business owners and investors send their investments to countries with developed infrastructure in digital transformation and service automation, referring to the government services provided through the Sanad application, which have doubled in the recent period.
Rawajbeh also noted that the Economic Modernisation Vision emphasised the importance of accelerating the pace of the government’s digital transformation by establishing partnerships with the private sector, adding that the vision aims to promote Jordan as a digital technology and innovation hub in the region.
According to the vision, about 25,000 employees worked for the ICT sector in 2021, constituting 1.6 per cent of Jordan's total workforce. The number of full-time workers is projected to reach 101,000 in 2033.
