AMMAN — Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) personnel have dealt with dozens of drug cases across the Kingdom since the beginning of the week, arresting several suspects and seizing amounts of drugs, the Public Security Department’s (PSD) media centre said on Wednesday.

The cases are part of “an ongoing campaign against drug dealers who seek to spread narcotics in society”, the PSD said.

One of the cases included a raid by AND agents on a suspected drug dealer’s residence in east Amman.

AND personnel arrested the suspect and seized half a kilogramme of cocaine and two palm-sized sheets of hashish, according to a PSD statement.

In Zarqa, 22km northeast of Amman, agents seized 228 bags of synthetic cannabis and an amount of narcotic pills after raiding “a dealer’s house” and arresting the suspect.

Another suspected drug dealer was apprehended in Madaba, 30km southwest of Amman, in possession of 400 illegal pills, after AND agents received a tip-off that he sold drugs, the PSD said.

Officers also raided a house in Irbid, 80km north of Amman, and arrested a suspect in possession of 1kg of heroin and a statue believed to be an artefact.

Another raid was implemented in Zarqa on a house that was “used for drug dealing and abuse”, where AND agents arrested 10 suspects in possession of narcotic pills and half a kilogramme of synthetic cannabis powder.

All seized items were referred to the State Security Court’s attorney general after concluding investigations with the suspects, the PSD said, commending the citizens who reported suspects to the authorities and cooperated with security officers during the raids.
