Senate president, House speaker stress importance of cooperation

AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez and Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi on Monday stressed the importance of cooperation between the two chambers to move forward with legislative and oversight measures.

Such cooperation is necessary to push forward the national projects His Majesty King Abdullah directed stakeholders to implement while inaugurating the second ordinary session of Parliament.

Fayez received Safadi at his office, where the two spoke about the contents of the King's Speech to form a roadmap for national priorities in the coming period. Reform, development and modernisation of the political, economic and administrative tracks are “irreversible”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

They also called for consultation between the two houses to improve laws on the parliamentary agenda. They stressed that the speech placed great responsibilities upon the legislative branch which will require cooperation and efforts towards integration, particularly considering the separation of powers outlined in the Constitution.
