Sanctions against students suspended following Balqa university protest
By JT - May 07,2017 - Last updated at May 07,2017
AMMAN — Balqa Applied University President Abdallah Srour Zou’bi on Sunday suspended punitive measures issued to students from the technological engineering faculty based on recommendations from the Dean Council, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Zou’bi said the investigation file was returned to the dean of the faculty and the head of the student disciplinary board to review whether the level of punishment could be changed.
A protest at Balqa Applied University, 35km northwest of Amman, had been held to denounce a faculty decision to expel three students and issue a warning to a fourth, ending last week after the intervention of MPs. The lawmakers’ interventions came after the faculty deanship failed to solve the issue and some protesters were reportedly hit by sticks and stones by “masked, anonymous people”, a National Coalition for Reform statement said at the time.
