Safadi, UK’s Raab discuss anti-virus efforts, region over phone

AMMAN — Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Dominic Raab on Thursday held talks on anti-COVID-19 efforts and means to enhance bilateral ties.

During a phone conversation, Safadi voiced the Kingdom’s condolences to the UK over the loss of life caused by the pandemic, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Safadi and Raab went over the latest regional developments, mainly those pertaining to the Middle East peace process.

In this regard, Safadi highlighted the importance of the international community exerting efforts to safeguard peace opportunities from the “unprecedented threat” imposed by Israel through its decision to annex settlements, the Jordan Valley and the northern Dead Sea area.

The Foreign minister also praised the UK’s stance in support of the two-state solution according to international legitimacy resolutions as the only way to realise a just and comprehensive peace that represents a Palestinian and Arab strategic option.

He also hailed the support extended by London to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

The two ministers discussed means to further enhance “distinguished” strategic and partnership ties, as well as to increase cooperation in the economic, investment and defence fields and enhance anti-terrorism efforts.

Safadi voiced the Kingdom’s appreciation for the UK’s support to help Jordan face economic challenges, underlining the importance of the London conference outcomes in highlighting the advantages of the Jordanian economy.
