Safadi re-elected as Lower House speaker

AMMAN — Ahmad Safadi MP was re-elected as speaker of the Lower House during its third and final ordinary session after receiving 82 votes.
The elections were held during a session chaired by Nawaf Khawaldeh MP, who is the longest serving lawmaker as Abdulkarim Dughmi MP abstained. Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh and Cabinet members also attended the session, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Nassar Qaisi also ran for the speakership and won 35 votes. The election, attended by 128 MPs, saw 10 ballots invalidated.
Safadi, in his first speech addressing the House, said that His Majesty King Abdullah’s Speech from the Throne is “our compass, vision and roadmap towards meeting Jordanian people's aspirations”. He also said that the goal is to enhance the public trust in Parliament.
