MP Ahmad Safadi elected Lower House Speaker

AMMAN — MP Ahmad Safadi was elected as speaker of the Lower House during its second ordinary session after receiving 104 votes in his favour.
The elections were held during a session chaired by the longest serving lawmaker, Abdulkarim Dughmi, and in the presence of Prime Minister Bisher Al Khasawneh, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Firas Sawair also ran for the speakership and won 13 votes. The elections, attended by 128 MPs, saw 11 ballots cancelled.
Deputies Mohammad Shatnawi, Zeinab Bdoul and Fawwaz Zu’bi withdrew from the elections before the start of ballot casting.
