Safadi to co-chair EU-Jordan Association Council meeting today

FM to meet senior Belgian, EU officials, lawmakers

AMMAN — Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi  will start a visit to Brussels today to co-chair the 12th meeting of the EU-Jordan Association Council alongside Federica Mogherini, the EU high representative for foreign affairs security policy and vice president of the EU Commission. 

Planning and International Cooperation Minister Imad Fakhoury and secretary general of the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs will also take part in Monday’s event, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

The meeting of the Jordanian-European Association Council, which is the highest official meeting between the two sides under the association agreement's umbrella, will cover a number of issues of joint interests and ways to develop bilateral relations.

Mogherini and Safadi will discuss regional and international issues including the situation in Syria, Iraq and the Middle East peace process, according to the European Council’s website:
www.consilium.europa.eu.

The meeting will also follow up on the Brussels conference on supporting the future of Syria and the region, which took place on April 4 and 5, the website added.

During his visit, Safadi is also expected to meet with the Belgian deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs and European affairs, Didier Reynders, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, members of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee and a number of senior European officials.
