RSS, UNDP sign water management agreement for north Jordan

AMMAN — The Royal Scientific Society (RSS) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on Monday signed a cooperation agreement to implement a project to expand innovation in water management for climate security in northern Jordan.

The project aims to find innovative solutions to achieve water security and implement water security projects in Jerash and Mafraq through working with small- and medium-sized enterprises and individuals concerned with innovation to achieve sustainable water security, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The RSS noted that the project seeks to achieve multiple sustainable development dimensions through generating more jobs for Syrian refugees and host communities in Mafraq and Jerash, and ensure women's full participation in the project.

The scheme is part of the regional SDG Climate Facility project: Climate Action for Human Security in the Arab States project funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and UNDP, the society added.

The RSS also pointed out that the SDG Climate Facility project is a multi-partner platform that focuses on the effects of climate change on human security in the Arab region, especially in countries experiencing conflicts.

UNDP partners with the Arab League, the Arab Water Council, UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, the UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative, the Habitat Programme and the World Food Programme to offer solutions to address climate challenges and achieve joint benefits through the sustainable development goals, the society added.
