AMMAN — Nineteen underprivileged families in different districts in Karakon Saturday received housing units as part of the Royal Initiative for Housing, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Covering all the Kingdom’s governorates, the initiative was launched in 2005 in implementation of His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives expressed in his meeting with dignitaries from the governorates.

Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi handed over the keys of the new houses to beneficiary families and toured the fully-equipped and furnished residences, accompanied by Minister of Public Works and Housing Yahya Kisbi, Minister of Social Development Ayman Mufleh and Karak governor Bilal Nsour.

Issawi also handed keys for a housing unit to an individual suffering from mobility impairment, noting that the new residence was designed according to accessibility standards for persons with disabilities.

He also highlighted that His Majesty King Abdullah insisted that the underprivileged families spend Eid Al Fitr in their new homes, conveying His Majesty’s hopes that they will find all means of comfort, tranquillity and decent living in these houses.

Meanwhile, Kisbi underlined that the ministry’s role is to supervise and implement these projects, according to the highest engineering and technical specifications, taking into account the conditions and needs of persons with disabilities.

Mufleh added that beneficiaries are chosen according to “just and transparent criteria endorsed by the Ministry of Social Development”.

During the handover ceremony, which witnessed adherence to health measures implemented in response to the pandemic, the families expressed deep appreciation towards the royal initiatives, adding that they reflect His Majesty’s commitment to ensuring people’s welfare, Petra reported.
