AMMAN — The Royal Court secretary general and the minister of public works and housing on Tuesday inspected the implementation of the infrastructure of the Madaba Industrial City project, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Royal Court Secretary General Yousef Issawi, who also heads the committee to follow-up on Royal initiatives, was accompanied by the Minister of Public Works and Housing Sami Halaseh.
Issawi stated that the visit aimed to inspect the ongoing work to establish the industrial city and to overcome any obstacles to the project’s various stages’ implementation, Petra added.
The industrial city is located on the King’s Highway in Madaba Governorate, 30km southwest of Amman, between the towns of Madaba and Theiban.
For his part, Halaseh noted that the area of the industrial city’s first and second phases covers 497 dunums.
The current first phase covers an area of 310 dunums, he said, explaining that the total area of 17,000 square metres is divided into 41 investment plots
The minister stated that the value of the project’s implementation, including the infrastructure for the industrial city and factories, amounts to around JD10 million, Petra reported.
The implementation of the factories is expected to conclude by the end of this year, while the first phase of the industrial city is due to be completed by the second half of 2018, according to Halaseh.
The foundation stone for the project was laid by King Abdullah II during his visit to Madaba last November. His Majesty instructed the government to implement the infrastructure of the factories in order to “attract investments and contribute to the employment of the people of the region”, Petra concluded.
