Royal Court chief follows up with Karak youth

AMMAN — Royal Court Chief Youssef Issawi on Saturday met with young people from Karak, following His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives issued during his visit to meet the governorate’s youth and listen to their ideas and needs.

During the meeting, held at the Royal Court, Issawi stressed King Abdullah’s keenness to follow up with the youth to address their challenges, provide them with jobs and create an incubating environment for their ideas, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The Royal Court chief also reviewed various Royal Initiatives in Karak, some 140km south of Amman, including those in the health, education and youth sectors, in addition to income-generating projects that contribute to providing job opportunities and developing the living standards of beneficiaries. 

For their part, the young people presented several proposals to improve the development process in Karak and increase the level of services in the governorate.

They also highlighted the importance of expanding productive and investment projects in Karak, and called for plans that build on the governorate’s advantages in natural resources and tourist sites.

The youth also called for support that empowers young people and allows them to effectively participate in the decision-making process.

During the meeting, the group highlighted the importance of the private sector’s social responsibility and called for creating a special fund focusing on programmes that empower youth, in addition to establishing an incubator for their “creative and entrepreneurial ideas”. 

King Abdullah visited Karak in June and inaugurated an expansion at the governorate’s public hospital.

During His Majesty’s meeting with community leaders and officials of the governorate, several young men and women also addressed the gathering, requesting a stronger role for the youth in politics.

The youth also expressed their hope that more focus would be put on Karak by increasing the number of clubs and recreational spaces to “fill their time with useful hobbies and activities”.

King Abdullah directed the government to focus on productive projects and to study the potential of utilising fertile state land to assist and support the governorate’s youth.
