AMMAN — The Jordan Trail Association has officially opened the registration for the 2018 Jordan Trail’s Thru-Hike, which will be launched from Umm Qais on March 2 and end in Aqaba on April 14, spreading across 650 kilometres, a statement by The Jordan Trail Association said.
Interested hikers can register through Jordan Trail’s website (http://www.jordantrail.org/thru-hike), on which they can choose to book the one-day trip, the weekend, or the region hikes (three-seven days) and the full thru-hike.
The event is supported by the Tourism Ministry, which is subsidising the daily registration fees for Jordanian hikers through “Al Urdon Ahla” (“Jordan is prettier”) programme. Jordanian adventurers will be able to purchase their ticket for 18 JDs instead of 30, the statement said, noting that the registration fee covers the one-day trip including transportation from and to Amman, meals, water, and guiding fees.
The Jordan Trail Association organises the annual thru-hike event to promote the Jordan Trail and raise funds to develop and sustain it, in addition to supporting the 52 villages and communities that the trail passes through.
The thru-hike also provides hikers with the opportunity to experience the diverse landscape and cultural heritage of Jordan, as well as historic and touristic landmarks.
Detailed information about the event can be found on the Jordan Trail Association’s website, which includes full description, maps, GPX coordinates geography and features of the trail, in addition to the annual Thru-Hike e-booklet.
The Jordan Trail has been named as one of the best tourism destinations in the world for 2018 by National Geographic, Vogue US, the British Sunday Times, Condenast, the Guardian and Lonely Planet, the statement concluded.
