AMMAN — The impact of a cold air mass that started affecting the Kingdom this week is expected to continue on Wednesday, with light snowfall expected at night on mountainous areas, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Tuesday.

Temperatures at night in Amman, the badia and hilly areas are forecast to dip below zero degrees, the JMD said in a statement, expecting rainfall and some bouts of hail in the northern and central regions, extending later to the southern region.

Light snowfall is expected in areas over 1,100m above sea level, the department added, warning of slippery roads, potential flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas, low visibility in desert areas due to dust-laden winds, and low visibility due to fog and low-altitude clouds in hilly areas.

Temperatures in Amman on Wednesday are expected to range between a high of 7°C and a low of -1°C, while mercury levels in Aqaba are forecast to be between 7°C and 18°C.

On Thursday, a further drop in temperatures is expected, with heavy rainfall forecast around the Kingdom, accompanied by thunder and lightning. Light snow is expected to fall on areas 900m above sea level, with northwesterly moderate to brisk winds.

Temperatures in the capital are forecast to range between a high of 6°C and a low of -1°C, according to the JMD, which also warned of frost formation after midnight.

Mercury levels are expected to range between a high of 2°C and a low of -3°C in hilly areas, while in Aqaba, they are forecast between 17°C and 7°C.
