Queen Rania lays foundation stone for Salt school expansion

AMMAN — Her Majesty Queen Rania on Tuesday visited the Salt Secondary School for Boys and laid the foundation stone of the fourth phase of its expansion.

Implemented by the Royal Commission for Developing the Salt Secondary School for Boys, in collaboration with the Royal Scientific Society, the fourth phase entails the construction of a four-storey building that will house a library, science and computer labs, administrative rooms for teachers, restrooms and a cafeteria, according to statement released by Her Majesty’s office.

Queen Rania, along with HRH Princess Sumaya, Education Minister Mohammad Thneibat, Royal Commission members and Salt community leaders, attended a ceremony held at the school to mark the occasion. 

In his address at the event, Royal Commission Vice Chairman Marwan Hmoud stressed the important role the Hashemites play in improving education in Jordan. 

Ayman Arabiyat, a member of the Royal Commission, gave a presentation on the different phases of the project, which began after His Majesty King Hussein’s visit to the school in 1992, the statement said.

Also during the ceremony, Hmoud presented commemorative shields to Princess Sumaya, Ahmad Al Lozi and Arabiyat in appreciation of their efforts in developing the school.

Following the ceremony, Queen Rania visited an exhibition showcasing a collection of local and traditional products made by Salt residents.

Established in 1923, the Salt Secondary School for Boys was the first secondary school in Jordan. It underwent several development phases based on King Hussein’s directives in 1992, according to the statement.

After Queen Rania’s visit to the school in 2008, the Royal Commission was formed to oversee and complete the development of the school.
