AMMAN — Her Majesty Queen Rania on Monday chaired the annual meeting of the National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA) board of trustees and listened to the council’s achievements in the past year and its future plans.

Queen Rania addressed the board and emphasised the importance of the council’s pivotal role in drawing up policies and plans that address societal challenges, according to a statement from her office.

Her Majesty also said that NCFA should be adaptable to changes, noting recent challenges the Kingdom is facing such as the refugee influx and radicalisation.

Citing Jordan’s experience in child protection, the Queen commended the country’s participatory approach that brought together multiple stakeholders.

“Dealing with these challenges requires proper organisation and that is what the council does in order to come up with holistic plans,” she added.

During the meeting, Rajai Muasher was re-elected as vice chairman of the board of trustees and welcomed new members, the statement said.

Muasher also thanked board members, the secretary general and NCFA staff for their efforts and achievements over the past year.

“The council is currently working on executing projects and programmes that are in line with its strategic goals,” he said.

“The council, over the years, has developed great experience in its field of work especially in issues pertaining to early childhood,” Muasher added.

The council plans to utilise that experience to expand its scope of work to reach more families across the Kingdom, according to the statement.

NCFA Secretary General Fadel Al Homoud presented the council’s 2014 achievements and the 2015 executive plan to the board.

Established in 2001 and headed by Queen Rania, NCFA is a civil society umbrella organisation that supports, coordinates and facilitates the work of its partners and relevant institutions that are involved and influential in the field of family affairs.

It acts as a national policy think tank, a coordinating and monitoring body and an advocacy group for family issues.
