Qatar hires 1,500 Jordanians under aid plan

AMMAN — The Labour Ministry on Thursday received lists of 1,516 Jordanians to be employed in Qatar.

Labour Minister Samir Murad said that ongoing contact and coordination with Issa Nuaimi, the Qatari minister of administrative development, labour and social affairs, resulted in approvals and visas for Jordanian applicants to work in various sectors in Qatar, including health, educational, financial and insurance sectors, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Murad pointed out that 816 Jordanians have had their procedures completed and they already arrived in Qatar, while another 700 will join their new jobs after they complete necessary travel procedures.

He also expressed appreciation for the Qatari efforts in issuing approvals and visas for a total of 1,516 applicants, a figure which exceeds the already agreed upon number by 50 per cent, starting with 1,000 in the first phase.  

The two ministers announced at a joint press conference last July, 10,000 job opportunities for Jordanians in Qatar. 

Earlier in June, Qatar pledged to offer the jobs to Jordanians in Doha and to provide $500 million in investment projects to support the Kingdom’s infrastructure and development projects. 

The assistance was announced during a meeting between His Majesty King Abdullah and Qatari Deputy Prime Minister Mohammed Al Thani in Amman.

The Labour Ministry in early August launched the Jordanian-Qatari job website: www.jqpee.jo, which Jordanians can visit to apply for jobs in the Gulf country.
