AMMAN — The Social Security Corporation (SSC) has said that its proposed amendments to the SSC Law will have a positive impact on retirees and potential subscribers.

“The new social security bill will introduce a mechanism that allows for the annual adjustment of the minimum pension,” Shaman Majali, SSC spokesperson, told The Jordan Times on Wednesday.

Majali added that this mechanism will be mainly linked to the average wages of social security subscribers. “The higher the average wage of the participant is, the higher the minimum pension will be,” said Majali.

“Children of Jordanian women and Gaza Strip residents will be able to voluntarily subscribe to the SSC according to the new amendment,” Majali added.

Moreover, children of Jordanian women and Gaza strip citizens will also be able to complete their subscriptions to the SSC for them to be eligible for a retirement plan, said Majali.

He stated that the proposed amendments to the Social Security Law aim to ensure all workers, their families and retirees are protected alongside guaranteeing the system’s financial sustainability,

“Early retirement beneficiaries will also benefit from the new amendments,” Majali added.

He said that the proposed changes to the law would include amendments to the way that inflation is calculated according to the average rate alongside the rate of wage growth. This would result in higher salaries for retirees compared with the current law, the official added.
