Projected Ras Al Ain terminal to accommodate 150 service cabs, 80 buses

AMMAN — The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) on Monday decided to allocate part of the transportation fare to build a terminal in Ras Al Ain to benefit Ammanis and alleviate traffic jams in the capital, an official said. 

Abdul Rahim Wreikat, director of GAM’s public transport operations department, said GAM will allocate JD250,000 from revenues of transportation fares to implement the project, which is expected to start operating next year. 

“The terminal will bring together a total of 150 service cabs and 80 buses at one station in the Ras Al Ain area in Amman,” he told The Jordan Times over the phone. 

The GAM official said the step was taken after many of the capital’s residents complained about the current route of these vehicles and buses, and the places where they park. 

“They park in the Dabaibeh neighbourhood which is part of the Ras Al Ain area. The way they park causes traffic jams near residential areas, which is a source of nuisance for residents,” he added. 

Wreikat said the new project will be “much better” for both drivers and passengers. 

“It will be safe for both of them, and many services, including public utilities and security personnel, will be available at the projected terminal as well,” he added.
