PM says new gov't to focus on field visits to improve services

AMMAN — The new government will focus on carrying out field visits to service institutions to improve the services provided to citizens, Prime Minister Hani Mulki said on Friday.

Investment in public facilities in the services sector will be expanded, Mulki told the Jordan News Agency, Petra, after a visit to branches of the Civil Service Consumer Corporation (CSCC) in Amman.

The premier stressed that all food items must be of high quality and affordable at CSCC branches across the Kingdom as Ramadan approaches.

During his visit, the prime minister met with shoppers and listened to their feedback on the quality and prices of products and the service in the state-owned outlets.

Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Jawad Anani and Deputy Prime Minister for Services and Minister of Education Mohammad Thneibat accompanied Mulki on the visit.

CSCC Director General Salman Qudah said the premier instructed the corporation to lower prices of items in demand during the fasting month, which starts this week, to make them more affordable to citizens, Petra added.

Qudah said Mulki expressed his relief that  food produce was of high quality and available in sufficient quantities, as well as being well-displayed.

Also on Friday, Mulki paid an unannounced visit to Al Bashir Hospital, where he checked on the emergency department and the services it offers to patients, as well as listened to remarks from patients, according to Petra.

The premier gave instructions to form a task force to follow up on and carry out necessary maintenance, and to prepare a comprehensive plan to develop healthcare services at the hospital.

Health Minister Mahmoud Sheyyab, who, along with Thneibat, accompanied Mulki on the visit, said that the government will embark on a comprehensive plan to improve health services in all governorates.

Work is under way to establish a new fully equipped 6,000-square-metre emergency building in the hospital with a capacity of 120 beds and a helipad, Sheyyab said, according to Petra.
