PM meets with Turkish transport minister, delegation

AMMAN — Prime Minister Hani Mulki on Sunday met the Turkish Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication Ahmet Arslan and an accompanying delegation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

Mulki discussed cooperation in the field of transportation with Arslan. 

Transport Minister Jamil Mujahed and the Turkish Ambassador to Jordan Murat Karagöz attended the meeting.

They also discussed regional developments, the challenges both countries face due to the large numbers of Syrian refugees they are hosting and efforts to combat terrorism.

In a separate meeting, Mujahed discussed issues related to the transportation sector with his Turkish counterpart, as well as discussing the possibility of signing more transport agreements.

Mujahed said that the existing agreements will continue as planned, in addition to the activation of new ones. The two sides will also work to find alternatives to revive trade and business ties between Jordan and Turkey, as well as increase traffic between Aqaba and Turkish ports.

Mujahed announced that, as of next week, work will commence on establishing a museum at the Jordan Hejaz Railway, funded by the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency. The museum will be built at a cost of around JD3.5 million, over    3,000 square metres of land.

For his part, Arslan said that Turkey is looking forward to enhancing its partnership with Jordan to “achieve stability in the region and open new trade routes”.
