AMMAN — The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) on Friday honoured Lower House Speaker and President of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Atef Tarawneh with the assembly’s award on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of its establishment.
The award came in appreciation of Tarawneh’s support of the PAM’s activities and the role Jordan plays in advancing regional security and stability in various parliamentary forums, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Tarawneh expressed his appreciation for the PAM, noting that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, believes in peace and dialogue as a way to resolve conflicts.
Tarawneh affirmed during his speech at the opening of the assembly’s session the importance of supporting a parliamentary draft resolution issued by the assembly that pushes the two-state solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The PAM’s 14th session, concluded in the Greek capital of Athens, included a set of recommendations and draft resolutions issued by its permanent committees, topped by support of the two-state solution and reaching a political settlement in Libya.
