Novel highlights Jordanian, Japanese cultures

AMMAN — A recently published novel titled “Nostalgia on the Sumida River” sheds light on the bonds between the Jordanian and Japanese people.

Authored by Jordanian novelist Dawoud Al Borini, the novel follows the story of an Arab man in the old city of Zarqa, starting with the 1967 Arab-Israeli War.

The author highlights the young man’s travels, mainly to Japan. The protagonist shares his experiences with a Japanese friend during his visits to Tokyo.

Written in Arabic, the novel highlights daily, historic and political events, mentioning leading figures that played a role in the world of politics and echoing the Arabs’ frustrations with occupation.

A ceremony to launch the novel will be held soon at Al Khaimeh Community Ecumenical Centre of the Evangelical Lutheran Good Shepherd Church in Amman.
