No additional fees for storing goods at Aqaba port — ASEZA

AMMAN — Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority  (ASEZA) President Nayef Bakhit on Thursday announced a decision issued by the Aqaba Container Terminal to refrain from collecting additional fees for goods and containers stored at the port whether the strike continues or ends.

Bakhit said that nearly 800 trucks of various types were cleared by 7pm Thursday, after finalising customs procedures, to head to their final destinations, indicating that the number of trucks exceeds the number cleared on Wednesday by 35 per cent.

Freight movement witnessed remarkable improvement on Thursday compared with the previous days, he said, highlighting the active movement of trucks coming to Aqaba via Wadi Araba.

Bakhit stressed that since the beginning of the strike, the Jordan Customs Department has taken measures to inspect containers inside the port.

He added that these containers will be ready for loading without going to customs yard No.(4), expecting that if the strike ends, the ports will need a period of seven days to return to their normal activity, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
