National Charter Party urges gov’t to reassess ties with Israel

AMMAN — The Secretary-General of Al Mithaq Al Watani (the National Charter Party), Mohammad Al Momani, on Saturday said that Israel and its "extremist right-wing government were not satisfied” with the brutal attack carried out by the Israeli occupation forces against unarmed Palestinians in Jenin. 

He said that the attack “was not enough for Israelis, as they demand that the Palestinians relinquish their rightful sovereign state”, stressing that such demands constitute a flagrant assault on the Palestinian people and their fundamental right to self-determination, according to a statement from the National Charter Party. 

He noted that it “deliberately undermines” the vital strategic interests of Jordan, which are “tied to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state”.

Hamid Batayneh, assistant secretary-general for Political and Parliamentary Affairs, deemed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent statements before the Israeli Knesset a “dangerous precedent”, highlighting that they reflect the “short-sighted approach of the extremist Israeli government”. 

He warned that the government poses a “considerable threat” to regional and international security, as well as to Jordanian interests, notably the Kingdom's national identity and foreign interests. 

Batayneh urged the Jordanian government to conduct a “comprehensive reassessment” of the future of Jordanian-Israeli relations in light of these “concerning” developments, the statement said.
