AMMAN — A woman infected with COVID-19 underwent a C-section at King Abdullah University Hospital, according to Obstetrics and Gynecology Consultant at the hospital Laila Zaghal, who performed the operation.
Zaghal told Jordan News Agency, Petra, on Friday that the 30-year-old patient was infected through contact during a wedding held in Irbid, adding that she underwent the surgery because her condition required it, and “not because she is infected with COVID-19”.
The consultant stressed that both the mother and the child are in good health. She said that the patient was transferred from Aydoun Military Hospital on Tuesday after she began to display COVID-19 symptoms. The woman later tested positive for the virus.
According to Zaghal, the newborn was separated from her mother for laboratory tests, stressing that the virus is not transmitted through breastfeeding, but through touching and breathing.
