AMMAN — Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel on Tuesday arrested a man who has a criminal record of 95 cases and is wanted for 26 others, the Public Security Department (PSD) announced Wednesday.
The man is suspected of involvement in automobile theft cases in which he reportedly stole people’s cars and then demanded ransom to return them.
The PSD said that within a CID plan to apprehend “dangerous criminals”, teams monitored the suspect, who is also reportedly involved in shooting incidents, after identifying his location in south Amman.
CID personnel found him driving a stolen car and surrounded the vehicle after installing many checkpoints in the area, the PSD added.
When forced to stop, the suspect tried to escape and ended up shooting himself in the foot, but the CID team brought the situation under control and took him to hospital where he was reported to be in fair condition, according to the PSD statement.
The suspect’s pistol was seized, and he is currently being questioned, the PSD added.
