AMMAN — Police on Saturday announced the arrest of a man in connection with the theft of JD25,000 using forged credit cards over a two-week span.
The suspect is part of a group of four men who allegedly used forged credit cards to buy merchandise and withdraw cash, the Public Security Department (PSD) said in a statement.
“The four are all Jordanians. We are looking for three more suspects,” PSD Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.
The case was opened when a local credit card company complained to police about financial transactions that were being made in Jordan with fake credit cards, the PSD said.
“A special task force was formed at the Criminal Investigation Department that followed up on some of the financial transactions and managed to identify four suspects, including the one who was arrested,” the PSD statement said.
One suspect was arrested, and police found “a special copy machine used to produce fake credit cards, and several fake credit cards in his possession”, according to the PSD.
Sartawi said the equipment, which the suspects were allegedly using to produce the forged credit cards, was brought from outside the Kingdom.
The suspect was referred to the criminal prosecutor for further questioning and indictment, the PSD said.
