Lower olive oil production expected this season

AMMAN — The Ministry of Agriculture expects the production of the current olive season to amount to around 180,000 tonnes of olives and 25,000 tonnes of olive oil.
Agriculture Ministry Spokesperson Nimer Haddadin said initial figures show that the season’s production of olive oil will be less than that of the previous year due to frequent frost spells last winter that adversely affected olive trees.
To date the ministry has not granted any exporting licences to any merchant and has not allowed the import of this commodity for several years, Hadadin noted.
