AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi on Monday met with Deputy Speaker of the Qatari Shura Council Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti.

The discussions focused on ways to further strengthen parliamentary relations, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Both sides highlighted the significance of coordinating parliamentary stances to serve central Arab issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause.

Sulaiti affirmed her country's commitment to all endeavours aimed at supporting the Palestinian cause, and commended Jordan's pivotal role in this regard.

Also on Monday, First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House Ahmad Khalaileh met with Sulaiti and her accompanying delegation to acquaint them with the stages of the Jordanian parliamentary process.

Khalaileh reviewed the political reform process that was launched when His Majesty King Abdullah formed the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System, noting that the committee contributed to endorsing constitutional amendments and new laws on elections and political parties.

He added that these laws are envisioned to expand participation in the decision-making process and provide a legislative and political environment that can guarantee that women and youth have roles in public life.

Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Wajih Azaizeh, in the presence of Khalaileh, also met with Sulaiti over Jordanian-Qatari relations.

Azaizeh stressed Parliament's keenness to enhance cooperation with the Qatari Shura Council to develop parliamentary action and unify strategies in various Arab and international arenas.

He also referred to the role of the ministry as a link between the government and Parliament, following up on parliamentary monitoring tools and ensuring coordination.

For her part, Sulaiti praised Jordan's stances towards pan-Arab issues, stressing the need to exchange expertise between the two countries, mainly regarding skills related to negotiation mechanisms and political and parliamentary work.

She also expressed the Shura Council's keenness on enhancing parliamentary relations between Amman and Doha.
