Lower House sends draft bills to committees

AMMAN — The Lower House on Sunday referred several draft laws to specialised committees.

The bills have been listed in the Royal Decree related to the current extraordinary session, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The chamber referred the 2023 Draft Law on Public-Private Partnership Projects to the Economic and Investment Committee, while the 2023 Draft Cybercrime Law was forwarded to the Legal Committee for review. The bills amending the Real Estate Property Law, the Traffic Law, and the Sharia Courts Formation Law, all for the year 2023, were also referred to the Legal Committee for further review.

Furthermore, the lawmakers voted in favour of the draft law amending the 2022 Companies Law, which was amended by the Senate, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

During the session, Deputy Mohammed Al Akour, representing the third electoral district in Irbid, was sworn in to the Lower House, taking the constitutional oath. He assumed the position left vacant by the late Deputy Yasar Al Khasawneh.

Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi addressed the remarks made by a number of deputies against daily newspapers. Acknowledging that the remarks were inappropriate, the Chamber approved the removal of these statements from the session's official records. Safadi took the opportunity to emphasise the crucial role and significance of the national print media, particularly regarding the discussions surrounding the Companies Law, which was referred from the Senate.
