AMMAN — The Senate’s Labour and Development Committee on Thursday met with Labour Minister Ali Ghezawi, who reviewed the ministry’s procedures to address poverty and unemployment, and organise the labour market.
The number of guest workers in the Kingdom stands at 750,000, of whom 300,000 have work permits, Ghezawi indicated, noting that 100,000 labourers have permits in the agricultural sector, the majority of whom work in other sectors, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Also on Thursday, Ghezawi said 195 projects, valued at JD2 million, have received approvals under the ministry’s self-employment programme, adding that he expected these schemes to provide some 800 jobs for unemployed young people across the Kingdom, Petra added.
