King meets leading UAE parliamentarian

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Thursday discussed bilateral relations with Amal Al Qubaisi, the president of the UAE Federal National Council, according to a Royal Court statement.
During the meeting, attended by Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh, His Majesty highlighted the role of legislative institutions in both countries in enhancing bilateral dialogue and cooperation, and exchanging expertise and visits.
The meeting also covered regional developments and ways to deal with them to preserve the safety of the Middle East and the people, in addition to Jordan and the UAE's role in enhancing joint Arab action.
For her part, Qubaisi commended Jordan's advanced level, mainly in regard to empowering women in all fields.
The Emirati parliamentarian was in Jordan to take part in the 2016 Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP), which opened in Amman on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Qubaisi met separately with Senate President Faisal Fayez and the House speaker.
His Majesty met with other participants in WIP, including Lithuania’s President Dalia Grybauskaite and Maltese President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca over bilateral ties and cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
