King checks on Civil Defence Department’ readiness

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, on Monday visited the Civil Defence Department (CDD) to check on its readiness to deal with various incidents.

King Abdullah was briefed on the department’s plans and projects to further develop services, according to a statement from the Royal Court.

At a meeting with CDD officials, attended by Public Security Directorate Director (PSD) Maj. Gen. Obaidallah Maaytah, His Majesty listened to a briefing on a project to develop emergency medical services to enable paramedics to share data for medical consultations before reaching hospitals, in line with the latest international practices.

The King commended civil defence personnel’s professional response to emergencies, which contributes to saving lives and minimising losses.

His Majesty urged keeping up with rapid advances in civil defence practices, and building on experiences, while maintaining high levels of readiness, especially in winter.

For his part, Maaytah expressed the PSD’s keenness on building the capacities of civil defence personnel.

During the visit, the King checked on the machinery and equipment recently introduced into the CDD to deal with emergencies, rescue operations, firefighting and special operations, including dealing with hazardous material.

Health Minister Feras Al Hawari and Royal Medical Services Director General Brig. Gen. Yousef Zureikat attended the meeting.
