Jordan’s blood donation initiatives unite to support Gaza’s medical sector

AMMAN — A blood donation campaign initiated by a local women’s organisation in solidarity with Gaza's medical sector has successfully gathered over 200 units of blood.

The Jordan Nashmiat Association, in collaboration with the Blood Bank, organised the campaign to underscore the significant role each individual can play in supporting the people of Gaza, Rudaina Al Atti, president of the Jordan Nashmiat Association, told The Jordan Times.

Al Atti added that the blood donation process, which includes preliminary tests that determine the blood group and measure specific indicators, takes approximately 30 minutes with each donor.

Although the campaign was a one-day event; Al Atti revealed plans to broaden the association’s donor network. This expansion aims to guarantee adequate and reliable blood supply.

“People are racing to donate blood units and this is truly a source of pride,” she said.

Duaa Al Tahat, director of the northern region Blood Bank, told The Jordan Times that around 900 blood units were donated a couple of days ago in Irbid.

“People are literally lining up to donate blood to save the lives of the people in Gaza…blood is a strategic resource during crises and we urge all people to donate,” she said.

Sara Badran, a donor in Zarqa, 22 kilometres northeast of Amman, told The Jordan Times, “This is our moral obligation… and I was even more encouraged when I was told that one donation can save up to three lives.” 

In Jordan, a number of private hospitals and trade companies launched blood donation campaigns in cooperation with the National Blood Bank. These efforts also include the Social Security Corporation, the Royal Police Academy, and various other national institutions.
