AMMAN — Oman's ambassador in Amman Hilal Maamari has said that Jordanian and Omani officials will meet soon to discuss the prospect of an investment partnership between the two countries.

During a press conference on Tuesday celebrating Oman's National Day, he said His Majesty King Abdullah’s recent visit to Oman — the first since Sultan Haitham bin Tariq ascended to the throne — featured important discussions on cooperation in matters of mutual interest.

Maamari praised the 12,000 Jordanian expatriates in Oman for their contributions to the country's development, noting that 3,500 Omanis are studying in Jordanian universities.

He emphasised the importance of tapping into available resources in both countries, particularly in the mining sector, and said that current trade exchange was "below aspirations".

He stated that a large number of Omanis travel to Jordan for medical treatment due to the country's reputable healthcare system, and reaffirmed continuous coordination on various issues of mutual interest, chief among them being the Palestinian cause.

"The Sultanate of Oman supports the right of Palestinians to establish a state with East Jerusalem as its capital," the envoy stated.

Maamari praised the Omani Authority for Charitable Activities for its humanitarian work in Jordan and Palestine, including the construction of health and education facilities and the assistance provided to refugees and people in need.
