AMMAN — Tunisia’s Ambassador to Jordan, Khaled Al Suhaili, said Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, has become a "beacon of stability" despite the regional turmoil.

He described the Kingdom as a "symbol of steadfastness" due to a "wise and balanced" policy and the "unwavering" Jordanian positions at the international level, especially regarding the Palestinian cause, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Speaking during a press conference held Saturday, he extended greetings to the Kingdom's leadership, government and people on the occasion of the country's centenary.

The envoy said the level of trade exchange between Jordan and Tunisia witnessed an 8 per cent growth over the past year, indicating that the COVID-19 pandemic did not negatively affect the trade exchange, as its volume reached about JD90 million.

The diplomat added that the two countries worked to transform the coronavirus-induced challenges into opportunities for cooperation and partnership, especially in the health, pharmaceutical and communication technology fields.

This partnership could help the two countries enter new markets, as it enables Jordan to reach markets in Africa and allows Tunisia to enter the Kingdom's neighbouring markets, according to Suhaili.

On joint action to enhance ties, he said the Tunisian-Jordanian Business Council will hold the third session bringing together the Jordanian Businessmen Association  and the Tunisian Connect Foundation on March 19.

In addition, the Jordan industry and commerce chambers and the Tunisian Confederation of Trade, Industry and Handicrafts will also convene on April 6, he noted.
