AMMAN — The Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), in cooperation with the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, is scheduled to hold a Jordanian-Syrian economic forum next Saturday in Damascus, the JCC announced on Tuesday.
JCC Chairman Nael Kabariti, who will chair the Jordanian delegation, said that such an event represents “a new step” in boosting trade relations between the two neighbouring countries, especially in light of international economic developments, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The three-day forum, to be held under the slogan "Participatory rather than competition", aims to further strengthen trade cooperation, start commercial partnership and advance ties, Kabariti said, noting that Jordanian companies are interested in enhancing their presence in the Syrian market.
The JCC chairman added that the forum, to be inaugurated by the Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Muhammad Al Khalil, will include working sessions on trade exchange and transport logistics between the two nations, as well as industrial and agricultural cooperation, and specialised meetings between Jordanian firms and Syrian business owners.
Kabariti also highlighted that the JCC has exerted great efforts to overcome obstacles that hinder trade exchange with Syria in order to preserve the two countries' joint interests.
On the sidelines of the forum, an exhibition of Jordanian products will be held, featuring 32 Jordanian companies in industrial, service, transport, logistics, tourism, food and trade sectors.
The value of national exports to Syria increased by 23 per cent during the first seven months of 2022 to total JD40 million, while Jordanian imports from Syria in the same period stood at JD26 million, Petra added.
