Israeli minister's break-in into Al Aqsa Mosque a breach of all agreements — Kanaan

AMMAN — Storming of Al Aqsa Mosque courtyards by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir is “a provocative step and a rejected attempt to impose new status quo by finding a synagogue for Jews and officially opens door to conduct Talmudic rituals inside Al Aqsa Mosque”, Secretary General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs (RCJA) Abdullah Kanaan said on Wednesday.

Speaking to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Kanaan said that this step is also a breach of all the agreements signed by Israeli governments, primarily pledges made to peace process sponsors, and contradicts all Israel's claims of peace and dialogue.

While the RCJA is monitoring the dangerous developments in Jerusalem, the secretary general expressed the committee's rejection and condemnation of the Israeli minister's move, under the protection of the Israeli government and security institutions, adding that his behaviour would “ignite the region and lead it towards inevitable confrontations”.

He also referred to warnings made by His Majesty King Abdullah, the Custodian of  Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites, during his participations in various international events, where His Majesty warned that any change in Jerusalem's historical status quo will lead to "a third Intifada (uprising)".

Kanaan said that the international community must force Israel to preserve Jerusalem's historical status quo and implement all international legitimacy resolutions, including the two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Jordan will maintain support to Palestine and Palestinian people's rights to establish their state with East Jerusalem as its capital, he stressed.
