AMMAN — Two South American suspects were apprehended in Cairo after allegedly stealing $36,000 from a car in Amman.
The Jordan Interpol office worked in coordination with Interpol in Egypt, a Public Security Department (PSD) statement said Wednesday.
A month ago, a citizen issued a complaint to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), reporting a theft of $36,000 from his vehicle after he had withdrawn the money from a currency exchange shop.
The citizen said he left the money in the vehicle, after which strangers were able to steal it by breaking the vehicle’s windows.
Central Amman Civil Defence Department (CDD) personnel were able to identify two South American suspects who left the country after the robbery and travelled to Egypt.
Interpol’s office in Amman therefore issued an all-points bulletin in coordination with Interpol in Egypt and arrested the suspects after they arrived at the airport.
Egypt’s Interpol extradited the suspects to Amman’s Interpol office, which, in turn, referred them to the CID for further investigation and legal action.
