Higher Education Ministry refutes claims of ‘automatic passing’ for university students

AMMAN — The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research on Monday refuted claims circulated on Sunday regarding “automatic passing” for Jordanian university students, describing these assertions as "inaccurate and taken out of context".

The ministry said that the Council of Higher Education (COHE), headed by Minister of Higher Education Muhyiddine Touq, previously studied alternatives and “all possibilities” for holding final exams for the current semester at Jordanian universities, including the option of automatically passing all students, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The ministry added that COHE is in a permanent session and is studying all alternatives and proposals, noting that the council’s decision to adopt electronic exams was taken via a consensus of COHE members and the approval of all presidents of Jordanian public and private universities.

This decision is a continuation of the e-learning process, a “strategic choice” for the government as it responds to the COVID-19 crisis, Petra reported.
