AMMAN — Minister of Health Feras Al Hawari on Monday discussed means of bolstering cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the field of training health personnel in public hospitals, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The health minister received the head of the ICRC in Jordan Sarah Avrillaud and former head of the ICRC in Jordan Sandra Tettamanti.

Hawari said that next week the ministry will inaugurate a training centre for life support programmes approved by the American Heart Association.

The minister said that health personnel will be instructed by trainers accredited by the association and all participants will undergo practical and theoretical tests.

Similarly, the ministry and the ICRC agreed to establish a training centre at the Ministry of Health for emergency care and prevention of violence against health personnel.

In its first phase, the training will begin at Al Bashir Hospital and will continue to reach 34 public hospitals across the Kingdom, the minister said.

The ICRC also made a donation to the Karak Governmental Hospital, in the form of medical equipment, with a value of JD34,000.

The equipment includes monitoring machines, trolley beds, ECG machines and others, according to Petra.

Also during the meeting, it was agreed that the ICRC would support the Ministry of Health in its national COVID vaccination campaign by providing logistical support, including vaccination equipment and mobile vaccination teams.
