Halawani, Trigunayat exchange views on expanding Jordan-Indian business ties

AMMAN — Anil Trigunayat, ambassador of the Republic of India to Jordan, and Hatem Halawani, minister of industry, trade  and  supply, discussed on Wednesday bilateral relations, especially in the fields of trade and investment, energy and capacity-building cooperation. According to a press statement received from the Embassy of India, both sides stressed the need for further impetus to boost ties through constructive collaboration between the public and private sectors of the two countries in the areas of small- and medium-sized industries, IT, pharmaceutical, banking, and more participations in major trade fair events. The ambassador proposed that the minister lead a business delegation from Jordan to participate at one of the international trade fairs in the future possibly after the Indo-Jordan Trade and Economic Committee meeting which is expected to be held in Amman in the last quarter of 2014. The press statement said discussion also focused on the inauguration of the Jordan-India Fertiliser Company, a Joint venture project worth $850 million.  A similar project between Gujarat Narmada Fertiliser Company and Jordan Phosphate Mines Company was also discussed at length. Trigunayat highlighted over $60 million of Indian investment in Jordan in the textile sector.
