Government Communication Forum spotlights GAM’s strategic vision

AMMAN — The Ministry of Government Communication held its fifth meeting of the Government Communication Forum on Tuesday, with the participation of the Minister of Government Communication Muhannad Mubaidin and Mayor of Amman Yousef Shawarbeh.
Shawarbeh highlighted the Greater Amman Municipality's (GAM) achievements for the years 2017 and 2023, its plans and projects for the years 2022-2026, and the key elements of its strategic plan, including 10-year public transport projects, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. He added that the GAM strategic plan covers five years, consisting of 30 goals and 15 objectives, including 212 projects and initiatives, with a budget of JD918 million.
The mayor said that the average commitment rate to achieve the strategy for the years 2022 and 2023 reached 86.2 per cent, with 95 services provided on the National Services Registry platform, pointing to the launch of the Amman Smart City Strategy and the adoption of the policy of using generative artificial intelligence.
Shawarbeh also highlighted GAM's achievements under the Vision of Amman for Investment and Development, including 18 future investment opportunities, such as the "Abdoun Corridor" and "Amman Slaughterhouse", along with 30 investment projects worth JD80 million and JD280 million for the healthcare project. He also noted that the GAM’s direct revenues amounted to JD5 million.
The mayor said that the number of users of the GAM buses, including the high-frequency bus, reached 44.3 million passengers, with 5.8 million users of exemption cards. He also highlighted the cultivation of 4,835 dunums during the years (2017-2023) as new green spaces, the establishment of 7 gardens, and the rehabilitation of 77 others.
He also said that the value of infrastructure projects amounted to JD252 million, and the construction of high-frequency bus projects, street planning, traffic signs, street lighting, traffic signals, lighting poles, and surveillance camera systems amounted to JD158 million.
