Amman mayor says GAM has assets of JD2.4 million, commends achievements

AMMAN — Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has assets of approximately JD2.4 billion, including investment-ready assets worth JD1 billion, according to Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh. 

On Wednesday Amman Governorate Council’s President Ahmad Abdallat and council members were briefed on Greater Amman Municipality’s 2022-2026 strategic plan.

During a meeting with GAM’s Council members, Shawarbeh said that the municipality has signed 30 investment projects worth JD80 million and identified 18 new investment opportunities, including the Car City project developed in partnership with an investment company from the UAE. 

The mayor also said that the municipality has achieved 86.2 per cent of its strategic plan two years after its launch, emphasising the challenges in the public transportation sector which, he said, require significant infrastructure, funding and project implementation over a 10-year period.

Regarding the municipality’s five-year strategic plan, covering 212 projects and initiatives with a budget of JD918 million, Shawarbeh said that it aligns with national sustainable development goals.

He also highlighted achievements from 2017 to 2023, including the planting of 4,835 dunams of new green spaces, the creation of seven parks, and the rehabilitation of 77 others. 

He also said that the value of public works projects reached JD252 million, of which JD158 million has been allocated for bus rapid transit, street planning, traffic signals, street lighting and surveillance cameras.
