FM, Chilean counterpart discuss ties over phone

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, in a phone call with Chile’s Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren, discussed bolstering bilateral cooperation as well as regional and international issues of common concern.
Safadi congratulated Klaveren on assuming his role as foreign minister, and focused on ways to enhance cooperation and coordination between Jordan and Chile in a number of fields, especially in terms of the economy, trade, tourism, agriculture and renewable energy, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
The two ministers also agreed to hold the second round of political consultations featuring senior officials from the foreign ministries of both countries as soon as possible.
Talks also covered a number of regional and international issues, foremost of which was the Palestinian issue and the deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
In this regard, Safadi extended his appreciation for Chile's support of the two-state solution.
For his part, Klaveren commended Jordanian-Chilean relations, expressing his aspiration to enhance cooperation and coordination in various fields.
The Chilean minister also voiced his country's appreciation for Jordan's efforts to maintain security, stability and peace in the region.
The year 2024 will mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Jordan and Chile. Chile is host to approximately 3,000 Jordanians.
