Safadi, in phone call with Finnish FM, talks ties, region

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi on Wednesday held a conversation over the phone with the Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Elina Valtonen. During the call, Safadi congratulated Valtonen on her new position as Minister of Foreign Affairs and discussed bilateral relations in addition to regional and international issues. Safadi and Haavisto emphasised their mutual commitment to enhancing cooperation between the two friendly countries in all areas, bilaterally and within the framework of partnership with the European Union, said a Foreign Ministry statement. The Palestinian issue featured prominently in the discussions between the two ministers, in addition to efforts to resolve crises in the region, especially the ongoing efforts to find a political solution to the crisis  in Syria. They also discussed the Ukrainian crisis and its implications. Safadi expressed appreciation for Finland's support to UNRWA and Jordan's response plan to the crisis in Syria. The Finnish minister commended Jordan's leadership, under the guidance of His Majesty King Abdullah, in efforts to resolve regional crises, confront regional challenges, and promote security, stability, and peace in the region. Both ministers agreed to continue consultations and coordination in the service of the best  interests of both countries.
