AMMAN — The board of the Jordan Press Foundation, which publishes Al Rai and The Jordan Times, on Thursday appointed Farid Silwani as JPF director general as of Sunday, replacing Ibrahim Dweiri, whose services were terminated.
The decision was taken during a board meeting presided over by JPF Chairman Samih Maaytah.
Born in 1960, Silwani has a BA in administrative science.
He is a retired major general who served at the Public Security Department where he assumed the post of human resources director and inspector general. Silwani also worked with the UN peacekeeping mission in Sudan and Bosnia and has attended several international programmes in China, Japan and the UK
The JPF board also approved a “hazard allowance” for employees of the printing press complex, as of the beginning of this month. The allowance was among the commitments pledged by the board as part of a labour agreement signed in November 2013.
Moreover, the board also endorsed a decision to dispense JD50 to all JPF employees on the occasion of Eid Al Adha, a gesture it has been implementing for years.
Following the board meeting, Maaytah said the JPF has no plans to sell any of its assets or vacate any of its premises, stressing that there is no need for such measures.
“Al Rai is recovering and there are no financial and administrative dangers,” he said.
Maaytah said the JPF has no intention, whatsoever, of laying off any employees, dismissing as baseless rumours to this regard.
Also, the JPF has no plans to move its employees working at its premises on Queen Rania Street to the printing press complex on the airport road, he noted.
Maaytah asserted that the JPF’s financial conditions are improving and that its revenues are growing in light of the high rate of advertisements, noting that the JPF’s financial returns cover expenses and financial commitments.
He added that payments are dispensed regularly and on time.
“This is an indicator that attests to the financial and administrative stability of the JPF.”
