EU-Jordan Business Forum discusses future of Kingdom’s energy sector

AMMAN — Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Amani Azzam on Tuesday stressed the importance of investing in renewable energy in Jordan.
Azzam noted that renewable energy contributes some 30 per cent to the Kingdom's total energy mix, highlighting the sector's significant potential for investment, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Wednesday.
While presenting a discussion paper during the first session of the "EU-Jordan Business Forum 2024" entitled "Green Energy Sources for the World: The Case of Jordan", Azzam underscored the significance of utilising modern technology to generate clean energy,
She stressed the importance of adopting the latest advancements in renewable energy technology to achieve clean energy goals and reduce carbon emission rates.
The secretary-general reiterated the ministry's commitment to diversifying energy sources across various sectors, adding that the ministry seeks to achieve green energy generation under the highest international standards.
Azzam also commended the EU support for Jordan in the energy sector, referring to the "substantial" aspirations and prospects fostered between the two sides through the wide and effective partnership.
The forum, in its inaugural edition, aimed to enhance EU investments in Jordan, boost Jordanian exports to the EU, and contribute to the strategic partnership priorities between the two sides.
It provided a platform to showcase opportunities and facilitated the gathering of policymakers, local business leaders, international investors, business support organisations, international financial institutions and diplomatic missions.
