AMMAN — Young Jordanians are ambitious, dynamic and with relentless determination especially when it comes to education and future job opportunities, according to EU Ambassador to Jordan Joanna Wronecka.
During a meeting with young people, community service volunteers and activists on Wednesday, Wronecka voiced the EU’s keenness on empowering youths to be actively involved in Jordan’s political, social and economic sectors.
The ambassador, who is leaving office in Jordan after almost five years of service, said she held several meetings over the past six months with students from Amman, Irbid and Karak to discuss various issues, mainly Jordan-EU cooperation.
She also said that students were focused on exploring possibilities of education in European countries, and they were interested in the EU’s political and economic roles in Jordan and the region.
The meetings were organised by the Jordan Training and Freedom Media Centre (Daem for Media) which distributed questionnaires to students on the EU and its role and activities in Jordan.
Analysing the data gathered, Daem found that 80 per cent of the interviewed students believed that Jordan and the EU enjoy excellent relations, with 70 per cent of them also seeing a “very good” interest in Jordan by the union.
According to 65 per cent of the students, the EU’s activities in Jordan are “good” while 50 per cent of them believed that the union promotes its activities in the Kingdom in a “good manner”.
Wednesday’s meeting at the EU Delegation in Amman concluded with a recommendation by attendees that the EU increase training and rehabilitation programmes offered to young people, especially outside Amman.
